Crumpled Flower Card

Wow, it's already Thursday!  Today is going to be awesome!!  I get to pack up my Expression and we're heading up to Lake Tahoe for the weekend.  It'll be me, Wendy, Nana Susan and about 40 of our closest Cricutty friends.  Our friend Lisa Kirk organizes it each year and I LOVE it.  The place is right on the lake, so it's stunningly beautiful, plus all of our meals are provided and we can scrap as late as we want.  Oh, and I have no responsibility - yay!!!  It's just pure heaven!  So hopefully I'll have a few fun projects to show you when I get back.  Oh, and I don't think I'll have internet access up there, so please be patient and I'll return emails on Monday.  And, we wouldn't leave you hanging, would we?  No way!  So I am VERY excited to say that we will have a fabulous Guest Designer for you tomorrow, so make sure you stop by and check it out - she rocks!!!

Don't forget - we have fabulous blog candy this week - the Paisley cartridge!!!  Just follow this blog and leave a comment each day this week to be entered.  (It also helps to leave your email in case you win).  And I'll be giving a bonus prize away to somebody too!  To be entered for the bonus prize - click on the Cricut Kits tab at the top of the blog and tell me which kit you would pick if you could win your choice.

Alrighty, here's an adorable card project from our wonderfully talented designer, Becca Rees.  Read details below to learn how to make this yourself...

The base of this card is brown and folded into a 5x7 size.  The next layer is a light patterned ivory, which is 4 3/4 x 6 3/4, and you need to build everything on top of this ivory layer before sticking everything to the brown card base.  On top of the ivory patterned piece is the light blue corrugated cardboard which  measures 4 3/4 x 2 3/4 - how cute is that???

Wrap the layered ribbon around this blue, and attach the brads through.  Becca then used a stamp, embossing powder and a heat gun for the "you're the best" sentiment, inked the outer part with light green, and pop-dotted it to give it lots of depth.

For the upper portion of the card, the yellow mat measures 4 1/4 x 4 1/4, and the inner white mat is 3 3/4 x 3 3/4.  Both mats are inked, and there's Diamond Stickles and white faux stitching around the edge of the yellow mat.  You can use a white gel pen to do this, and the Signo Uniball is the best one by miles.  There are also "Liquid Pearls" in the corners of the white mat.  The big flower is actually something that Becca made while at CHA.  This was made during a class at the Provo Craft booth.  Use any cart that has a petal-type flower, and cut at least 3 different sizes - small, medium and large (ranging from about 2-3 inches in size).  Then lightly spray with water, crumple them up, and let dry.  When they're dry, un-crumple them a bit, layer and glue together.  Put a stone in the middle, and you're set with one gorgeous flower!  What a fun technique - go try it!!

Somebody asked me the other day about the "Custom Layout" blog candy prize from a couple of weeks ago.  Kathleen in New Jersey was the winner, and she has chosen a very cool theme.  It's going to be a Disney/Music theme for her son who will be competing in a music competition at Disneyworld soon.  This was the perfect excuse for me to buy the Quarter Note cartridge, and I'm hoping to work on this while in Tahoe, so stay tuned!
