I've been getting a lot of questions lately about Team Monique, so I thought since we have so many new subscribers and since Robyn talked about it on her UStream last week, I would fill you in on what this is all about. In case you missed it a couple of months ago, here's the video of my recent "Pink Journey"...
Team Monique was started by my good friend, Stephanie Culton (who also put together the above video) last summer after I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. We did the 5K Race for the Cure in San Francisco to support the Susan G. Komen Foundation. We had the largest friends and family team with nearly 50 members and raised about $9400. This is where a HUGE chunk of research funding comes from, and honestly, what better way to help find a cure???
Did you all know that 1 in 8 of us women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in our lives? (And you don't need to be over 50 to qualify - I'm in my 30's!!) I don't know about you, but I know a lot more than 8 women, and it breaks my heart to know that such a huge percentage of them will have to go through what I just went through. But they are making progress through the research - both toward finding a cure AND through early detection and improving treatment. It made a huge difference in my treatment, and you just never know which 1 of your 8 closest friends or family members will need that same support.
Because this is not money that goes in my pocket, and because it's SUCH an incredibly important cause, I would really encourage you to support us in our fight. Seriously, even if it's $1 or $5 - maybe it just means giving up a coffee today. Look how many followers we have on this blog - that would really add up and make a difference!
I have been through a LOT in the past 9 months - being told I most likely had only 2-5 years to live, going through super aggressive chemotherapy, double mastectomy, and then twice-daily radiation for 5 weeks. I won't lie - it wasn't a big party. BUT I chose to look for the blessings in life, and I vowed to work on finding some good in a bad situation. This is that good. This is how we can make a difference. It's a miracle that I'm still here, and I've been declared "No Evidence of Disease" and that is in large part because of the improvements in research and treatment. (We all know it's also because of the massive outpouring of support and prayer too!) Now I actually have a decent shot at watching my daughter grow up, and I am so thankful for that!
To support our team, you can donate by going to my personal fund-raising page HERE. Or you can go to our team page HERE, and click on any name to support them - it all goes toward our team and the cause. Or you can even join Team Monique if you'd like and help us with further fund-raising. If you're local and want to join, we'd love for you to come walk with us on May 7th in Sacramento. If you're not local, you can still join and help out if you want to by doing "Sleep in for the Cure" and getting your friends and family to support you. Or just keep it simple and make a donation - I'm not picky!
From now until May 7th, if you make a donation to Team Monique, I will send you a free set of directions to the Tuff Girl layout pictured below or any of my Cricut project kits ($10 value). Just email me at moniquegriffith@yahoo.com, and let me know that you donated and mention which project you'd like the directions for.
We are also doing a "Crop for the Cure" event on May 1st. This is an all-day Cricut crop and silent auction, and it sold out over 50 spots in ONE day. We have some amazing companies and individuals contributing items for the silent auction such as Tim Holtz, Provo Craft, My Pink Stamper, Cricut Magazine, Oh My Crafts, Expressions Vinyl, Echo Park, and many more. If you have something you'd like to contribute to the silent auction on May 1st, you can email me at moniquegriffith@yahoo.com.
Thanks for stopping by today, and thanks for all of the support!!

hi, all my prayers to Team Monique..Good luck in all that you do to raise money for cancer research ..Emma xx
Yay- for Team Monique. I so wish I was local and not in PA so that I could join your team. I was on a local relay for life team last year- it would just be so cool too meet you and be part of your team. But will be sending in a donation just like I did last year. You are such an inspiration! I thank God for your "no evidence of disease" report!!
Congrats on the Evidence Free Report, I have seen first hand the days and sleepless nights, endless time at the hospital, and just the tired of being sick. You are a very BEAUTIFUL WOMAN and very strong, your encouragment spreads like wildfire and your inspiration is contagious Thank You :)
good luck with team Monique and your health. Many prayers for you and wishing you many years of good health and happiness.

Such a wonderful effort on so many levels! Go Team Monique!!!
Thanks so much for sharing your journey with all of us. Sadly, I have several friends who have been fighting breast cancer in the last couple of years. Just like you, they have carried themselves with strength and grace that I didn't think possible while dealing with something so scary. You, and my friends, all amaze me. You rock!
This brought tears to my eyes. I don't even have the right words to say, but I donated, because every little bit helps. Go Team Monique!
Best wishes to you and your team. I walk for Team Hars in Philadelphia.. It is a moving event watching all the survivors walk down the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum to kick off the walk.
Many many prayers going your way Monique. I had heard you had cancer but I didn't know where your blog was. THANK YOU so very much for the video. It has really touched my heart. The Lord is good and I'm so thankful you had His strength thru this trying time. Continued prayer going your way.

I wish that I get the opportunity to physically meet you one of these days along the way, but I'm thankful that I can do it via your blog right now... you are a very talented lady, your energy and inspiration are contagious to me and many others... congratulations on the "evidence free report"!
i am praying for you and all the lovely women fighting this beast. my sister is fighting the same battle right now.
I'm glad you are doing better. I have a S-I-L battling cancer that started as breast. Prayer does work miracles! I love the page layout...very girly!
Go Team Monique! You most certainly have had an incredible journey. Thank you so much for the information that you give to us. I certainly can say that I know at least 5 women that have had breast cancer and even more that have had some other type of cancer. Thank you for spreading the word and encouraging other women in this fight.

You are such an inspiration, Monique, both as a woman and as a crafter <3 I love following your blog!!
May this years Team Monique go even farther than last year and raise even more money. I am a medical lab technologist and I see and deal with cancer patients daily. I say that Cancer is the devil on earth and we all need to do whatever to get rid of him.
Prayers & blessings for Team Monique. Everyone needs strength & hope during a crisis. I just loss my brother yesterday after a long three month battle/hospitalization. Everyone has a story...
You are so inspiring because of how positive you've been and how well you've fought. I emailed Stephanie & I'm going to get a Team Monique shirt to wear at the Komen event in Columbus OH (Sacramento is a little too far- lol!)
Monique - My sincere prayers and wishes that your personal journey continues to be a success story. My prayers also go out to the 1 in 8. May God continue to bless you!
I thought this might be a good time/place to share this information:
Cleaning for a Reason
If you know any woman currently undergoing chemotherapy, please pass the word to her that there is a cleaning service that provides FREE housecleaning - once per month for 4 months while she is in treatment. All she has to do is sign up and have her doctor fax a note confirming the treatment. Cleaning for a Reason will have a participating maid service in her zip code area arrange for the service. This organization serves the entire USA and currently has 547 partners to help these women. It's our job to pass the word and let them know that there are people out there that care. Be a blessing to someone and pass this information along.

Thank you for sharing your journey. I love your positive attitude! Go Team Monique!

My prayers are for you Team Monique. You are evidence of not giving up and inspiration to us all. I cannot begin to imagine the terror you went through, but God does heal and he does answer prayers. Your little girl is truly blessed to have such an awesome mom. I support your courage and will try to live myself as an example.

We all know someone in our lives who has touched by cancer. What ever kind you donate to, do. It's due to the donations of all of us that is making a difference in the diagnosis, treatment and, one day, the cure for cancer. We all make a difference, patients, doctors, nurses, techs of all kinds, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons and friends.
If you can't donate, walk! Can't walk, donate! Give up the latte, the ice cream, the dinner or lunch out.
If we don't do anything, nothing will be done - Monique, thank you for sharing your story with so many people. And, ladies, get your mammograms done - if it does hurt you, it's only for a few seconds! A lot less painful than going through the treatment of cancer would be, for sure!
Blessings to all, Donna

My prayers for you and for Team Monique. I had a scare a couple of years ago; my was found not to be Cancer but it was scary. Hopefully a cure will be found soon.
Monique, you are such an inspiration. I lost a cousin to breast cancer a number of years back and recently my DH's aunt went through it again after over 30 years of being in remission.
But God is awesome and He works all things for the good to those who love Him. I love your positive attitude. It makes such a difference in your life. God Bless!!!
Monique, You are quite an inspiration! Thank you for all you are doing personally to fight this disease and helping others on this journey. Prayers continue to be with you.

Many prayers for You and all the women (and men) facing this aweful disease! God bless!
Dear Monique,
Never let any Doctor set how long you will live. Live every moment. I had a dear sister-in-law who years ago was told she had 18 months and she lived 16 1/2 years. She kept a good spirit about her and spent her time serving others and lifing everyone she could. She loved her family and friends and her Church. You take care and smile that beautiful smile.
Keep you strength and faith that a cure is on the rise I pray for you and your team.
