Cricut: The Official Blog
Sunday, March 6, 2011
Hey Monday Lovers! (And the other 99% of you too, hehe.) I hope you all had a fantastic weekend! Last week sure was fun posting on Everyday Cricut. I'm amazed at how many new followers we have here on this blog!  The designers and I have a game plan for going forward. It seems that you all love getting to see new projects AND learning how to make them. So we'll work on showing you some projects with "recipes" so you can make them yourself and we'll also continue to show you our kits as they're released.

This week's blog candy is.... the Paisley cartridge!  This is a great cartridge - so fun and happy!!  To enter, just follow this blog and leave a comment on today's post.  Then come back each day this week to do the same.  BONUS ALERT!!  I will also give out one more prize this week, but you've gotta work for it (just barely).  Go to the "Cricut Kits" tab at the top of this blog and check out the new page with pics of all of our available kits.  Then include in your comment which one you would choose if you won your choice of any kit.  You've gotta name a kit to be entered for it.  That's it.  Good luck choosing!

I get a lot of questions about how the kits work, so here's a short video to show you. Also, you can download a FREE full set of directions for the In Bloom layout shown in the video and pictures below by clicking HERE ($10 value).  This will help you see first-hand that these are really quite do-able.

The nice thing about our kits is that it's still something you get to make yourself, but without all of the hassle of trying to find all of the patterned papers, cardstock and ribbon that coordinate perfectly, and without spending all the time figuring out sizes, layout, etc. That's stuff is all done for you, and you get to do the fun part. Plus all the while, you get to learn new things about your Cricut and some design principles.

Even for the many of you who are perfectly capable of designing your own beautiful projects, we get a lot of people who buy our kits simply because they're fabulous for taking to crops and Swarms.  You can grab them and go rather than spending hours sorting through tons of paper and trying to figure out what in the world you're going to work on.

The little embellishments are all measured out and tucked safely into ziplock baggies.

We also do some of the basic stuff for you.  For instance, we pre-cut the photo mats and border strips so you don't have to waste time on that or worry that you might cut them the wrong size.

The magic is really in our directions.  We keep careful track of our cuts as we're designing.  Then we go back and organize all of those details into a chart.  So if the chart starts with light blue, you find the light blue cardstock in your kit, load it onto your mat and into your machine.  You then go line by line and do each light blue cut according to the size and feature listed.  And you can just keep going - you don't have to unload between cuts.  Only unload to switch to your next piece of paper or cardstock.  And it often helps to put a little checkmark by each line once you've cut it.

After you've worked through and done all of your Cricut cuts, there will also be directions on how to assemble the background, a list of the photo mat sizes for future reference, tips for assembling and attaching the Cricut cuts, where to use pop-dots, where to add white gel pen accents, etc, etc.  Plus there's bunches of color photos too.  It's like a self-contained class that anybody can do.

If you have ever done one of our kits, how did you like it?  I'd love it if you could share a little review in your comment so that others can read it.  And we're constantly working to improve things, so if you have some ideas for us, we'd love to hear that too.  Thanks!!

Monique, You and your design team are so talented...thanks for sharing it w the rest of us!
You ask which of the kits I'd pick...I can't choose just one. I love the Beautiful lo by Wendy...Tim Holtz inspired. I love the Explore...2 ds's. Imagine...dd who was in dance. Mom & Me...dd, girly girl. Spring into action...2ds's & acy. In Bloom...dd, my flowers and acy!
I have purchased two of your kits before and love them! Winter Magic lo, using Winter Woodland and Warm Hearts lo, using A Child's Year. They're both adorable...I even went out and bought more of the SU! paper for Warm Hearts and Basic Grey Eskimo Kisses for Winter Magic, so that I'd be able to make 3 of each...one for each of my kiddos. If money wasn't a factor, I'd have every one of your kits! I can't think of anything I'd add for improvements...you've covered all the bases. Thanks for sharing the instructions for the In Bloom lo today...you know I downloaded them!

However, I am very blessed to say that I have most of them (or they're in my purchase pipeline) so...I have ALWAYS loved but haven't yet made SPOOKTACULAR! I love the vibrant colors and darling little guys on this one! It's been on my "to-do" list forever!

Unknown said...

I have to give my 2 cents here on your kits. I have to say that I have done most of Monique Griffith Designs' kits and I absolutely am addicted! I am FAR from creative and not really "techy" with my expression (YET). The directions make it SO easy for even the most novice of Cricuteers! They are very detailed and specific and they show you exactly what you should see on your Cricut display screen so you know, BEFORE YOU CUT, that you have the right functions programmed in. You will fool everyone into thinking that you are the most GRANDE of artists with the gorgeous masterpiece that you will have when you are finished. Really! I have looked at some of the projects I've done with their kits and thought "Seriously? Did I really just make this?" I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY reccommend the kits to ammateur and expert scrappers alike! VERY user friendly and they create the most wonderous of projects!!! That's just my 2 1/2 cents worth of opinion. :-)

I have used a kit and thought it was very well put together. I consider myself a cricut beginner, so I was intimidated and I am super slow. Once I got into it, I found it easy to understand. All was well until I started cutting small, little stuff and I realized that I needed a new blade. So, I had to stop, shop, watch a video, install a new blade. Now I always have an extra one handy. I definitely recommend a kit! I just won Rainy Day from Wendy's blog, so that has to be my new fave!! :) But, I've always loved the Minnie Mouse book! So sweet!

Thanks for sharing the video and directions... I've purchased a few of your "just the directions" for $10 and they are superb, especially if you want to duplicate the exact LO. For the ones I got, I don't always follow everything to the tee, but it gives the inspiration and ideas to play with what I have; papers are sometimes not the same, changed colors, etc. My fav would have to be "catch a wave" b/c my in-laws took the entire family to Maui this past summer and it's fun, cheerful, happy and colorful, even though DH was ill while we were away and it's 8 mths later and dr's have finally found out what's wrong, yay! :)

Wow! so much stuff comes in a kit! How exciting. It's hard to pick just one I really like the Spring Layout and the Just because cards. I'm into making cards these days too.

Kristie Maynard said...

Now that was a tough decision! Finally I whittled it down to a choice of 2 and that would be either Catch A Wave or Fabulous and Fiesty. Ended up with these two, because I'm sure I have the correct cartridges for them. If I hadn't taken that into consideration, I'd still be hemmin' and hawin' LOL.
Thanks for all the info and the free sample. You are a peach!

ok, for the cricut kits, my fav would be the Beautiful layout kit.

Now lady's, heads up. I have purchased almost all of Moniques kits. I love the instructions. they are the easiest to follow. the color pictures make it easy to put everything together. I have a REAL BIG problem putting papers together. These kits are all color coordinated and everything is together. I load up some and take to the retreats I attend. Everyone ooo's and aaaahhhhs when they see the finished projects. I TOTALLY LOVE everything. I am a solid follower and always will be.

I love the directions! I have purchased a Christmas LO and the Easter LO & 3D box. Both pages get constant compliments. The directions are easy to follow, extremely well written, well organized and easily prepared. If you own a cricut and are struggling to make figure out which end is up, purchase a kit to help you become familiar with your bug! I really like the Catch a Wave layout. They all are wonderful and I am saving up to purchase some more kits. :)

scrapstampcrazy said...

Thanks for the info on the kits. I didn't know you make the cuts yourself. That being said I love the stampede kit but don't have that cartridge. So my next favorite that I could actually make is Catch a Wave.

Well, I love Beautiful and it would be a perfect lo for some of my wedding pics...but I think I'm even more smitten with the Life Is Tweet kit, it is filled with so many fun pages that I was already imagining the exact pics I would put on each page.
When I looked for its blog entry to see all the fun pics of it, I saw your slide show and story and I wanted to say simply that you Rock Monique, and will have one more person praying for your continued success!

I love the sweet treats party kit. I love making boxes with my cricut. I have tons of pics that need scrapbooking but I like boxes better :)

GlendaP said...

I love the look of all of your kits but would choose Stampede Layout as a favorite because I have a grandson who participates in ranch rodeo and this would be perfect for him. One thing that I might mention, and I'm sure it's just me, but I had not realized that you had to have that particular cart to complete the lo. I just assumed that all the cuts were already made. Like I said I just had not thought it through but there may be some others like me and it would be a good idea to imphasize that you would need to have the cart to complete the layout. Thanks for all the time you spend for us and I really enjoy your tutorials.

Instructions are to the T, I once thought I caught a mistake in your instructions - but have to admit it was Cricut pilot error. Love how they turn out and everyone I show them to loves them too. Monique,

I was already super impressed with your layouts, but your kits are AMAZING!!! They seem like they would be so easy to follow and I love that the paper & ribbons all match (the hardest part for me is choosing the coordinating papers)! Thank you so much for the free download and for taking the time to make a video...now if I could just save up enough to buy one of each! ;)

I love ALL your kits, so it's so hard to choose...but if I were lucky enough to win, I would choose your Minnie Mouse Book Kit!!!!!!!!!!! My six year old daughter would LOVE it and we're going to Disneyland next week during the kids' spring break!

Thanks for sharing!
